In December, TechneCS is hosting a guest speaker program. All presnetations will be virtual, and links will be sent out soon. This will be a valuable opportunity to connect with industry professionals in a variety of fields and topics within computer science. Attendees will get the chance to discover cutting-edge technologies, and learn to navigate education and career in this space.
Dr. Clarice D. Aiello is a quantum engineer interested in how quantum physics informs biology at the nanoscale. She is an expert on nanosensors harnessing room-temperature quantum effects in noisy environments. Clarice received her B.S. in Physics from the Ecole Polytechnique; her M.Phil. in Physics from the University of Cambridge, Trinity College; and her Ph.D. from MIT in Electrical Engineering. She also held postdoctoral appointments in Bioengineering at Stanford, and in Chemistry at Berkeley. Two months before the pandemic, she joined UCLA, where she led the Quantum Biology Tech (QuBiT) Lab. Since Nov 2023, she is the CEO of a startup unsurprisingly named Quantum Biology Tech (QuBiT) Lab, and is writing the first-ever textbook about Quantum Biology. This presentation will focus on how nature harnesses quantum processes to function optimally, and how might we control such quantum processes to therapeutic and tech advantage
Dhruv Srinvasan is a Junior Physics and Mechanical Engineering Dual Degree Student at the University of Maryland, College Park. He conducts research in the FloQuET Lab at UMD, working on both Quantum Optimization for Digital Quantum Computers in association with the National Quantum Lab at IonQ, and using Synthetic Frequency Dimensions for an experimental Analog Quantum Simulation . Additionally, Dhruv serves as Events Director for the UMD Undergraduate Quantum Association (UQA) and organizer for the Quantum Coalition, hosting the Quantum Track for the Bitcamp Hackathon, a plethora of quantum technology workshops at Technica and UMD, the local and global portions of the SQUID Conference, and industry-organization partnerships with companies such as IonQ, QuEra, IBM, and Booz Allen Hamilton. This presentation will focus on his current research with analog and digital quantum simulation
Kristen Reeves is the Executive Director and co-founder of Louisiana Women in Technology (LaWIT). A non-profit organization dedicated to the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM), providing career development opportunities for women in these fields, and most importantly supporting young girls to pursue education and future professions in STEM. This presentation will discuss the steps she took to build her career, including education, internships, different jobs, and the work she has done in the community with LaWIT and the Futures Fund.
Gabriella is a Hackathon Coach at Major League Hacking, where she runs technical streams at Global Hack Week and asissts organizers in running successful hackathons. Her technical background is primarily in front end web development and design. This workshop will be a brief discussion of accessible web development, including the importance of it, how it is implemented, and careers in accessible code.
Maya Kalai is a cryptography enthusiast who currently studies at Lexington High School. She participated in Canada/USA Mathcamp and G2 math program and is currently part of MIT Primes CS Circle. In her free time she enjoys solving riddles and learning cool new math topics.
Dr. Seth Hilliard holds a Ph.D. in Biology and a B.S. in Physics and Astronomy and is the CEO of a BioTech startup focused on developing research tools utilizing data science and machine learning (I create tools other researchers can use). He also applies his expertise as a machine learning consultant, notably contributing to the development of an AI-powered wearable for emotional state prediction. His coding journey, which began in high school, has been instrumental in all his major career endeavors. In addition to his professional pursuits, Dr. Hilliard is dedicated to educating aspiring coders, supporting their growth in the ever-evolving tech landscape. His presentatio will focus on his education and work, along with the steps he took to nagivate to this point.
